Celebrating the Life of Russell Marvin Gerhard

November 15, 1944 - November 30, 2018

Russell Marvin Gerhard “Russ”, 74, passed away peacefully on Friday November 30th at the Coatesville VA Hospice Center surrounded by his loved ones after battling Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

Russ is survived by his best friend and loving wife Liola Gerhard, his two sons, Damon and Lee, and his two daughters Anna (Josh) and Amber (Samuel), his beloved grandchildren, Celene, Heather, Jesse, Kaitlin, Rikelle, Kayleigh, Conner and Lola; his great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Landon and Mia; his two brothers, Edward C. Gerhard and Larry J. Gerhard (Kathy) and a very large extended family.

Russ is preceded in death by his son Jon D. Gerhard and his parents Betty M. Gerhard and Russell E. Gerhard.

In his early years, Russ enjoyed fishing and playing baseball with his father and two brothers. Russ joined the Navy in 1962 as a communications specialist/analyst on the USS Shangri - La during the Vietnam War.

All those who knew Russ, knew the undeniable love he had for his wife Liola and his children. Russ was an avid angler, from small streams to the open seas and had a deep passion for hunting, from rabbits to large game. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren how to tie a knot and bait the hook and enjoyed teaching his sons how to hunt. His favorite place was hunting at his brother’s cabin in the Endless Mountains just north of Starrucca, PA where he made many fond memories.

We would love for all friends and family to celebrate Russ’s life on Sunday, January 6th, at 12 pm, at The American Legion in Boyertown PA. (100 Walker Dr. Boyertown, PA). Military honors will be held at 1:30 pm. Note: Lunch will be served at 12 pm during service.
