Dagny M. Fecht, age 94 of Bryn Mawr, PA

Dagny M. Fecht died peacefully on April 17, 2020 at her residence in Bryn Mawr, PA at the age of 94. Born Dagny Marie Heggem in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rev Lars J. Heggem and Dagny Nordby Heggem. Moving at a young age to Boston, MA with her family, Dagny attended Girls Latin School, the first college preparatory high school in the United States for girls. She went on to graduate from Upsala College in East Orange, NJ and later earned a Masters in Social Work from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. At Upsala College, Dagny met Vitus T. Fecht, Jr. They married in 1949 and together raised two daughters, Deborah and Dorothy, while living in NJ.

Dagny enjoyed a thirty year career in the field of social work. Starting as a caseworker with the NJ Bureau of Children’s Services, she worked passionately for the care and safety of children in their families, as well as their foster and adoptive families. She also worked as a psychiatric social worker counseling families in Middlesex County. Moving to NH in 1973, Dagny spent the next twenty years working for the State of NH in several positions in Manchester and Concord involving the development, implementation and evaluation of family service programs throughout the state.

Dagny was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who would make time in her days to do anything for her family. She was a liked and respected colleague and mentor to many in her career. She baked the best cakes and pies and always delivered for birthdays, holidays and about any event. In her retirement years, she found more time to gather with friends over meals and to travel, reconnecting with distant relatives and old friends.

Dagny was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Deborah Doyle, and her brother, Warren Heggem. She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Luntey and husband, Kirk (Ardmore PA), her grandson, Michael Doyle and wife, Angela (Holladay, UT), her granddaughter, Elizabeth Doyle (Denver, CO), and her great-grandchildren, Isabella and William Doyle. She is survived as well by her sister, Ruth Higgins (Manchester, NH), her sister-in-law, Marie Heggem (Fargo, ND), and several nieces and nephews.

A private service and burial will be held in NH. In lieu of flowers, Dagny’s memory may be honored by contributions to any organization you choose, particularly ones providing services to families in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.
