Ellen Clare Meyers, age 95, a longtime resident of Glen Ellyn, IL, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2020, in Paoli, PA.
Ellen was born in the Bronx, NY on February 12, 1924 to Bertrum and Grace Meyers. She and her siblings, Grace and Bert, grew up in Valley Stream, NY. She graduated as the valedictorian from Woodmere High School at age 16 and attended the New York State College for Teachers.
Ellen dedicated 44 years to Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, employed in the Actuarial Division in New York City, and the Group Insurance Division in Chicago, rare opportunities for a woman of that time.
Ellen moved to Chicago in 1948 and Glen Ellyn in 1961. Over her 57-year residence Ellen was active in her community as a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn, participating and leading Bible studies and discussion groups, and serving as church treasurer. She held offices in the Glen Ellyn Woman’s Club and Historical Society. Ellen went on numerous travel adventures; was an avid bridge player and crossword puzzle solver; participated in a ladies bowling league and aerobics class; and enjoyed the company of her many friends, nieces and nephews at her charming home.
In 2018, Ellen moved to Pennsylvania to be near family. She is remembered for loving and supporting her family and friends completely and unconditionally. All who had the great opportunity to know Ellen admired her humor and intellect.
