and they may remember when you said it,

but they will “always” remember how it made them feel.”

Ronald Edward McCoy passed away Monday October 5, 2020 at the age of 79. Ron was born March 12, 1941 in Akron, Ohio the last of 4 children, and somewhat of a surprise to his parents, Marion (nee Hause) and Hall B. McCoy. Ron graduated top of his class at Firestone High School where he excelled at both academics and sports. After high school, Ron attended Purdue University on a full academic scholarship majoring in Industrial Engineering. After college, Ron enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served 4 years. Ron pursued and achieved a successful career in manufacturing operations working for companies such as Corningware, AE Staley and ICI Chemical, relocating numerous times. Not one to actually “retire”, Ron worked for Longwood Gardens for many years as a security guard after his corporate career and was continually active in his church on various boards, committees, and Stephen Ministries. Possibly the worst joke teller in the world, Ron more than made up for it with his kindness, empathy and compassion for others. “Service to Others” was his motto. He greeted each day with optimism and enthusiasm, much to the annoyance of “non-morning” people. In 1991, he married the love of his life, Kay McCoy (nee Clark) and together, they effortlessly blended their families with love and support for the next 30 years. His family, both immediate and extended, meant everything to him. He reveled in planning beach vacations at The Outer Banks, NC to ensure the family stayed connected. Christmas was never complete without a fully decorated 7ft. tree, an inflatable snowman on the deck, a fridge full of food, and a shot of whiskey for “the boys” on Christmas morning. Ron was a huge animal lover; countless cats and dogs (the more pitiful the better) found their way to Ron’s heart and home where he made sure their lives were utterly pampered and spoiled. Ron’s favorite hobby was going to garage sales where he proudly brought home unique “treasures” much to the chagrin of his wife. Ron is survived by his wife Kay, daughters CJ McCoy and Shelley Lamberta, sons Mark McCoy and Tim Clark, and 5 grandchildren; Harley Jane Barnes, Timothy Joseph Lamberta, Ryan William Lamberta, Natalie Chandler Clark, and Johnson Judd Clark. He is also survived by his brother Bryan McCoy and was pre-deceased by his sister, Doris McCoy Ries and brother, Robert Juel McCoy. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Ron’s Life on Monday, October 12th at the United Methodist Church of West Chester, 129 S High St, West Chester, PA 19382. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11AM. Ron’s burial will be private.
